Macaron vs Devin
Devin is a mature autonomous engineer for teams, reached from Slack, Teams and your tracker. Macaron is a smaller workspace that runs Claude Code and Codex on machines you control and shows you exactly what each turn changed.

Short answer. Pick Devin if you want to hand tickets to an agent from Slack or Jira and get pull requests back, with browser testing, automations and enterprise compliance already in place. Pick Macaron if you want to keep using Claude Code or Codex on your own keys, on an isolated machine, and review every turn's diff with checks the system ran.

How each works day to day
Devin
You hand Devin a task from its web app, from Slack or Teams, or from a Linear or Jira ticket. It works in its own workspace with a shell, an editor and a browser, which you can watch and take over. When it's done you get a pull request, and it can record itself clicking through what it built.
Macaron
You open a project in the desktop app, pick Claude Code, Codex or Macaron's own agent, and chat. Each turn ends with a card that says what changed, like "Edited 3 files +42 −7". You can undo that turn, open Review to read the diff, and see your project's checks run before and after. When it's right, you can open a pull request from the app.
Where code runs and what it can touch
Devin's site says it runs in the cloud or on your machine, and can spin up its own Windows, Mac and Linux virtual machines as needed. It lists SOC 2, ISO 27001 and FedRAMP, zero data retention with model providers, and VPC deployment.
In Macaron you choose per project. A Computer is a Linux machine of its own, in Docker on your Mac or on a cloud server, with no access to your Mac's files or credentials. A sandbox copy puts a copy of a Mac folder on that machine; Apply to Mac writes the changes back only if they apply cleanly. Connectors such as Vercel or Stripe are passed to a run's commands only when you switch them on.
Review, checks and undo
- Devin: you review its pull request, and can follow its work live in the embedded IDE.
- Macaron: every turn is a git checkpoint you can undo; Review opens the diff; your test, lint and typecheck scripts run before and after; a second model can review the diff if you turn it on; the receipt is built from what actually ran.
Integrations
Devin lists Slack, Microsoft Teams and 365, Jira, Linear and GitHub. Macaron has connectors for Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare, Railway, Fly.io, Render, Heroku, DigitalOcean, Supabase, Neon, Stripe, Sentry, Linear and Expo, and pull requests through the GitHub CLI. It has no Slack or Teams integration.

Who should pick which
- A team that triages bugs in Slack and wants an agent to pick them up and open pull requests: Devin.
- A company that needs FedRAMP, SSO and a VPC deployment today: Devin.
- One developer who already pays for Claude or ChatGPT and wants agents to work on a machine that can't reach their laptop: Macaron.
- Anyone who wants to read each turn's diff and undo it before the agent moves on: Macaron.
Using both
They don't conflict. Devin can take the queue of small tickets while you use Macaron for the work you want to steer turn by turn. Both end in ordinary git branches and pull requests, so nothing is locked in.
What Macaron doesn't do
No Slack integration, no mobile app, no hosted SLA, no multiplayer, and no visual browser testing of its own beyond the AI end-to-end tests. Devin's team features, compliance list and Slack workflow have no equivalent in Macaron today.
Questions
Is Macaron a Devin alternative?+
For hands-on work, yes: it runs an agent on your repository, checks the result and can open a pull request. It isn't a replacement for Devin's Slack-to-pull-request workflow, team plans or compliance certifications.
Does Macaron test in a browser like Devin?+
Partly. macaron e2e runs AI-driven end-to-end tests, and previews of ports 3000, 5173 and 8080 show what the agent is serving. It doesn't record itself clicking through the result the way Devin describes.
Can I use my own model keys with Devin?+
Devin's pricing page, read on October 1, 2026, describes quotas and model availability per plan and doesn't mention bringing your own model keys. Macaron always runs on your own keys or subscriptions.
Where does my code go?+
With Devin, to its cloud or your machine, per its site. With Macaron, to the folder or Computer you choose; a Computer can be Docker on your own Mac, so the code never has to leave it, apart from what your model provider receives.
Can Macaron run on a schedule?+
Yes, through automations built on Cezar, an open-source orchestrator. Devin's scheduled and trigger-based workflows are more developed and connect to alerts and CI.
Does Macaron work with a team?+
Not yet. It is single user, with no shared workspaces.
