iMessage

Text yourself a task and get the pull request back as a text. Mac only.

Set it up

In the desktop app on your Mac, open Settings → Integrations and turn on Run threads on this Mac. In the iMessage card, enter the phone number or email you text from, keep the trigger word (macaron) or pick your own, choose a default repository, and turn on Start threads from iMessage.

  • Full Disk Access: Macaron reads new messages from the Messages database on your Mac. The card shows Open Full Disk Access when it needs it; turn on Macaron there, then press Check again.
  • Automation: the first reply asks to let Macaron control Messages. If you said no, the card shows Open Automation settings.

Start a thread

From your iPhone, text the Mac’s iMessage address (or yourself, when both use the same Apple ID) a message that starts with the trigger word, for example macaron fix the login bug in acme/shop. Macaron answers On it, runs the thread on this Mac, and texts back the summary, the pull request and a link to the proof when it is done. Text macaron stop to stop the latest one.

What Macaron reads

Only messages from the addresses you entered that start with the trigger word and arrive after you turn the switch on. The database is opened read-only on your Mac and nothing else in it is read or uploaded; only the request you texted is sent to macaron.sh, as the thread’s prompt. It works while Macaron is open on the Mac.
